2012 eclectic reader challenge: february - mystery.

This was just not my cup of tea. The story relies heavily on the reader's ability to follow conversation that is highly colloquial and jargonistic. There is very little description, and often characters are introduced without preamble or explanation. I found this book like listening in to a phone conversation between two strangers without knowing any background (and not really caring). 


I know it's a multi-award winning book, but honestly, it just didn't hold my attention, and reading it became a chore.


Not for me. I gave it 1 / 5 stars on Goodreads.

She has challenged me to read one of these oddly specific mystery books I've been blogging about. Right, so I thought to make it a real challenge, I should choose one that is outside my comfort zone. Something I wont relate to easily...

Ah! Remember my previous post about just how ridiculously specific you can be about your mysteries?

Well low-and-behold, I was grabbing some new books for the bookmobile...

and there they were!

No. NO?! Surely that's not...?

Yes: OMG it's a 'BEAR COLLECTORS' mystery. (A WHAT?!)

What?! WHAT?! Mysteries for people who like miniture things? Furniture? What the heck would that be about? How could you make a mystery novel about that? Oh come on - this is just getting ridiculous, surely there's no one who actually reads... oooooh... hello.... a BOOK mystery???

so: you read mysteries...?

In my naivety, I thought people read mysteries. Oh and then of course, people like  crime, thriller, spy, and suspense, and so forth. But no! I found Stop, You're Killing Me .com which is the most amazing catalogue of mystery books I've ever come across!
