sick of angsty teen vampires? me too.

'Today' published a list of 10 books they think teens should read, including:

  • To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
  • The Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
  • The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Pride and Predjudice - Jane Austen
  • Lord of the Flies - William Golding
... *APPLAUSE* Bravo!

I'd like to add a few more books I read/wish I'd read as a teen that changed the way I think:
  • Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell
  • Animal Farm - George Orwell
  • The 'Tiffany Aching' series - Terry Pratchett
  • The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
  • Anne of Green Gables - LM Montgomery
  • Black Beauty - Alice Sebold
...oooohhhhh there's so many more!!! :)

What books do you wish you'd read? What books will you encourage your kids to read?

  1. Books read as a teen that had a huge impact on my life (that aren't already listed above):
    The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Bridge to Terabithia (More a YA novel, but excellent anyway)
    Where the Red Fern Grows
    Candide
    Fahrenheit 451
    Flowers for Algernon
    The Picture of Dorian Gray
    The Outsiders
    The Chocolate War
    The Dark is Rising Sequence....

I'll stop for now because otherwise, I won't shut up!

  2. I've decided to re read to kill a mocking bird. I didn't appreciate it when I HAD to read it in sixth form as a teen. I loved black beauty though, probably read it when I was about 12 ish
